Instagram Reel Places Extractor API

A travel Reel's location tag is one pin, not the itinerary. The Instagram Reel Places Extractor API lists every restaurant and sight named in the clip.

The location tag is not the place list

A trip-planning app saves an Instagram Reel because the creator tagged Lisbon. The saved pin is a neighborhood, or one café the creator happened to geotag. The video itself names a market, a viewpoint, a pastelaria, and a hotel the voiceover rushes past in twelve seconds. The tag was never the list.

Nobody talks about this, but travel and food Reels hide the venue list inside the clip. The location sticker is a single Instagram place. The recommendations are spoken, burned into a title card, or sitting in the caption under a stack of hashtags.

The workaround is a pause button

I keep seeing the same desk. Someone on a hospitality or maps team opens a Reel, pauses at each cut, and types names into a sheet. They miss the one that flashed at 00:04. They spell the one that was only said. They file the geotag as if it were the itinerary.

Location tags fail this job for a boring reason. Creators tag the city, the hotel they stayed in, or nothing. A "five spots in Barcelona" Reel can mention five restaurants and still carry one sticker that says Barcelona. If your product only reads the tag, you stored the destination and threw away the places.

Captions are not a rescue. A lot of them are "save this" plus emoji. The names are on screen for a beat, then gone. A transcript of the music track will not mention Tickets Bar. A screenshot folder will, until someone has to turn forty screenshots into rows with a city attached.

That is the gap. The list already exists. It is just not a field Instagram gives you.

What is actually in the video

The useful fact is smaller than "AI watches Reels." A named venue shows up in one of four places: type on the frame, speech, the caption, or that lone location tag. A real extractor has to read all four and keep the name, a category, the city and country when the clip makes them clear, and the second the place first appears. Scenery without a name is not a place. "Best sunset" is not a venue.

Once you have the name and the city, a Maps search link is enough for a trip app to open the pin. Coordinates and ratings are a second lookup, not the first job. I would rather return Time Out Market Lisboa at five seconds than guess a place ID from a blurry storefront.

Three steps, then a map row

How it runs:

  1. Paste public Reel links.
  2. Each clip is read for venue names, not for a single sticker.
  3. You get one row per Reel, and a place list with city, country, and when it showed up.

I built the Instagram Reel Places Extractor API for that row. Run on Apify.

Who is holding the pause button

This is for the person shipping a trip planner that lets a user drop a Reel and get a saved map. It is for restaurant discovery that builds lists from food creators instead of asking an intern to retype them. It is for a hospitality researcher who wants which hotels and neighborhoods a creator actually named.

It is not for someone who only needs the geotag Instagram already exposes. If the video is a beach with no sign and no sentence, you should get an empty place list and, when the city is obvious, a destination. That empty result is correct. Inventing a venue from a skyline would be worse.

Pure scenery, private or deleted Reels, and names that are jokes rather than real venues will come back thin. Optional Maps matching is a separate lookup and can miss when the name is ambiguous. Input, pricing, and those caveats are on the Apify Store README for Instagram Reel Places Extractor.

The tag was the cheap field

The cost of the old way is a product that claims it "imported the trip" and then shows one pin. Your user already watched the Reel. They came to you so they would not have to pause it.

The same job on TikTok is pulling named places out of travel videos. After you have a name, Google Maps place reviews are the next read, not a substitute for the list. The rest of the writing is on all posts.
